A bracelet is designed around more than a single measurement. We consider how closely it should sit, how it will move and the construction needed to keep it comfortable and secure around the wrist.

THE PREFERRED FIT
Some bracelets are intended to sit closely around the wrist, while others benefit from a softer and more relaxed movement. Your preferred fit helps us consider the finished length, proportion and how the bracelet should feel when worn.

FOR FLEXIBLE BRACELETS
For a bracelet with a clasp, begin by measuring around the wrist where the piece will be worn. An allowance of approximately one to two centimetres may then be considered according to how closely or loosely you prefer the bracelet to sit.

FOR A CLOSED BANGLE
A closed bangle must pass over the widest part of the hand rather than fit only around the wrist. The measurement is therefore taken around the hand with the thumb folded towards the palm so that the required internal opening can be considered.

The form of a bracelet is considered together with how it moves, opens and remains secure. From a flexible chain to a structured bangle, the construction and fastening are developed around the way the piece will be worn.

FLEXIBLE
BRACELETS
Chain and linked bracelets move naturally around the wrist. Their links, connections and proportions are considered together so that the bracelet can remain fluid while retaining the strength required for regular wear.

STRUCTURED
BANGLES
A bangle may be formed as a closed circle, an open form or a hinged construction. Its internal opening, thickness and flexibility are considered so that it can be worn comfortably without losing its intended shape.

GEMSTONE LINES
For a bracelet composed of multiple gemstones, colour is considered first. The stones may then be selected or cut to closely aligned dimensions so that the finished line feels balanced and continuous around the wrist.

FASTENING
The fastening is selected around the bracelet’s form, material, weight and value. Spring rings, lobster clasps, box clasps, tongue clasps with safety locks and other considered mechanisms may be used according to what best supports the finished piece.

The bracelet, fastening and any safety mechanism are developed as one construction. Where a particular clasp or opening would better support the design, we will explain the recommendation before the piece is confirmed.

A softer or more delicate gemstone may benefit from a protective setting, a lower profile or a more contained construction. The intention is to preserve its character while reducing unnecessary exposure during wear.

Pointed corners and vulnerable areas are considered carefully when the setting is developed. V-prongs, protective edges or a more contained setting may be used to support these areas and reduce unnecessary contact with clothing and surrounding surfaces.

A high setting can expose the gemstone to direct impact and may catch against clothing or nearby objects. For a bracelet intended for regular wear, we may recommend a lower or more integrated profile while preserving the intended appearance.
